Day 4:

 

We woke up early again today. Peter got up early to watch the sunrise. Derek woke up early and headed to the gym. The rest of us ate oatmeal and scrambled eggs on the porch. Professor Garrod had recommended that we attend church service this morning. All of us attended minus Derek and Robin. Church was very interesting. While in the cab on the way to church, I heard “What a Friend we Have in Jesus” in English on the radio. When we got to church the first two hymns they sang were songs that I knew in English but they were sung in Marshallese. I hummed the melody or sometimes mouthed the English lyrics. Today they celebrated Epiphany and had communion. The whole service was in Marshallese but overall it was very similar to American church. It was terribly hot in church today. There were fans hanging from the ceilings but that didn’t do much for the 86 degree temperature. We split up after we left church, some of us went to Tide Table and some of us went to the Resort. I went to the resort for some internet access and lunch.
